Lead pencil

This is the basic tool. It enables one to block in the initial elements of a drawing.
This sketch can be worked up into the final drawing, or serve as a basis for directly-applied colour or inking-in in black, with felt-tips or a brush.
The advantage of using a pencil is that any imperfections in the line work can be immediately corrected with an eraser.
